Emilia Nickel April 17, 1936 - June 13 , 2017 Emilia Nickel ( nee Tardif) was born on April 17, 1936 along with her beloved twin brother Emile to parents Louis and Josephine Tardif. She passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on June 13 th in Trail, B.C., at the age of 81 years.

Emilia grew up on the family farm in the Lac La Biche Mission area, surrounded by the love and laughter of her 13 siblings, 7 brothers and 6 sisters. Being the youngest daughter of the family some of her siblings had already left home, married and had started to raise their families by the time Emilia was born.

Emilia attended school in Lac La Biche Mission, the local school at the time, sometimes travelling by horse and buggy, sometimes walking the long distance and for a brief time residing there, when winter roads were too treacherous to travel through. It was also at this residential school that she discovered her love for cooking, enabling her to help the nuns and miss a few classes.

She was united in marriage to Albert Girard on November 21st, 1956 and together they raised 5 children, Jean-Paul (Eva), Laurette(Ken) , Clement ( Gisele) , Eileen and Emile( Tammy).

After 21 years of marriage Emilia left the Lac La Biche area , relocated to Trail, B.C., and continued to work and enjoy life in her much loved mountainous new home. In 1985 she re-married to Ken Nickel and together they built a new life surrounded by family and friends, having just celebrated 31 years of marriage Emilia loved life, she loved her family and she will be sadly missed by all.

Emilia is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Ken Nickel , her children: Jean-Paul (Eva), Laurette(Ken), Clement(Gisele),Eileen,and Emile( Tammy), her grand-children: Nicole, Candice, Justin, Cole, Christian, Daniel, Janelle, Andre, Mackenzie and Connor, her great-grandchildren: Riley, Jessilyn, Lily, Jasper and Kai, Joanie-Rae, her siblings: Odelie, May (Alex) , Theresa, Paul (Darlene) and Mary Tardif, step-children Kevin, Troy, Karen and Wendy and 9 step-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. 

A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM, at the Plamondon Pioneer Centre, Plamondon Alberta. 

Cremation has taken place.
