On Tuesday, July 16, 2018 Herbert Erickson of Lac La Biche passed away at the age of 102 years. He was the last of nine siblings.
As a confirmed bachelor, Herbert left no immediate family but is mourned by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.
Herbert was a lifelong trapper, living in the bush and being at peace with nature and its wild animals. His great passion in life was archery and he started shooting as a young boy with a homemade bow made from willow. When he enlisted to fight in France during the Second World War, he managed to convince his commanding officer to let him bring his bow along. When he returned to Canada after being wounded, he attended many shooting competitions and succeeded in becoming Canadian Champion in 1958. Many of Herbert's memorabilia as well as his story can be found in the Lac La Biche museum. He was a great storyteller and entertainer, as well as a kind and generous man, he will be missed by many.
