Benedict (BJ) Richards-Michalko

Benedict James Richards-Michalko, known to many as “BJ,” left his earthly chains to go
and be with the Creator in his heavenly kingdom on July 9, 2025, in Edmonton, AB, at
the young age of 38 years.

BJ was born on September 18, 1986, to Benedict (Benny) Michalko and Grace Richards
in Fort McMurray, Alberta. BJ was a rambunctious kid, growing up in the 90s and full of
life. With his big spirit and energy, he played hockey, baseball, and soccer, practiced
karate, and even took tap dancing lessons. He was into skateboarding, video games,
and had a love for animals, especially his pet cat, Nips, and shared his grandfather’s
love for horses.

He is survived by his two sons, Shaun and Andrew, his mother, Grace Richards, his
sister, Ronnie Richards, his father, Benedict Michalko, stepmother, Charlene Michalko,
and stepbrothers, Corey Stratton, Jaydee Wilson, Jesse Wilson, his grandmothers,
Lena McCallum, Barb Faichney and Anne Michalko, along with numerous aunts, uncles,
cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his grandfathers, Raymond Richards and Eugene Michalko; his
auntie, Jessica Richards; his uncles, Keith Michalko and Perry Walsh; his sister, Tessa
Richards; and his cousin, who also doubled as his best friend, Brendan James
Richards.

His loved ones will remember BJ for his fun-loving personality and for a life cut short. As
he begins his journey to his final home with the Creator, we ask you to send prayers and
blessings to his family, friends, and everyone who knew him.

In celebration of BJ's life, a wake will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Conklin
Multiplex (leaving Mission View Funeral Chapel at 11:00 AM). The funeral will be held
on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Conklin Multiplex, with a Graveside
Service immediately following at St. Vincent Cemetery in Conklin, AB.
