Bertha Charlotte Sawchuk

The family of Bertha Charlotte Sawchuk announce that their beloved mother and grandmother went to her eternal home on March 6, 2026 at the age of 94 surrounded by her four daughters.

Bertha was born in Oklahoma February 12, 1932 and lived most of her life in the Lac La Biche area before moving to St. Albert in 2005. She loved horses, outdoor adventures, reading, and spending time with her family.

She was the matriarch of a large family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her children: Stella (Phil) Armstrong, Martha (Ken) Misner, Betty (James) Van Dyke, Rebecca (Murray) Smith; daughter-in-law: Josephine Wandering Spirit; grandchildren: Marsha (Paul), Tracy, Michael (Alison), Jesse, Jennifer (Wade), Kyle, Darla (Jayson), Jonathan (Jenny), Nana; step grandchildren: Gene, Randy, Kevin, Harley, Keith, Jason, Jeremiah, Angela, Pam, Juliane; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brothers: Raymond Diesel, Clyde (Mary) Diesel; sister: Ramona Lein. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

Bertha is predeceased by her husband of 56 years: William James Sawchuk; son: James Daniel Sawchuk; parents: Louis & Gladys Diesel; brothers: James, Robert, and Ludwig.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Lac La Biche, Alberta
