John Verboom

It is with sadness we announce that John Verboom left our world, with his daughters by his side, on July 23, 2025 at the age of 93. Born in Utrecht, Holland on July 15, 1932, he decided to venture to Canada in 1954. He made his home in Edmonton where he lived for over 6 decades before moving to Lac La Biche in 2020. John will forever be remembered for his sense of humour, love of music, dancing, singing, and always being the comedian in the room.

He is survived by his children: Wendy Verboom (Einar Gunderson) Tammy Verboom (Allan Scott); grandchildren Mason (Katelin) Torresan, Brayden Torresan; great-grandchildren: Lennon, Briar, and Vayda Torresan; Sisters: Lida Verboom and Edda Sluijs-Verboom; mother of his children: Sherill Verboom. 

John was predeceased by his wife: Cecylia Verboom; brothers Henk, Harry, & Erich Verboom; parents: Martha (van Dyken) Verboom; Christiaan Verboom.

Cremation has taken place, and a private service will be held at a later date.

The Verboom family is truly grateful for the Palliative/End-of-Life Care team, and the Home Care team. With their guidance, support and compassion, John was able to spend his final days in his own surroundings with familiar people attending to his needs.

And finally, a sincere thank you to the staff of Golden Sands for their care over the last 3 years. A very special thank you to the staff who work in memory care. These wonderful people became John’s family and are grieving along with us.
