In Loving Memory of Karl Woodford Smith

July 31, 1996 – May 3, 2022

It is with overwhelming sadness and fond memories that the family of Karl Woodford Smith announce his sudden passing on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

Karl was born on July 31, 1996 in St. Albert, AB  and was raised in Lac La Biche, AB.   He most recently resided in Fort McMurray, AB where he had relocated for work. 

Karl’s larger than life personality and genuinely respectful and caring nature is what drew so many people to him.  His love for different activities meant that he had countless friend groups and connections. Karl was extremely close with his family, particularly his sister. 

He approached his career as a Millwright like he approached the rest of life, with dedication, commitment, and enthusiasm.

Karl is lovingly survived by his mother and father, Eric and Tracy Smith of Lac La Biche, AB and his sister, Kirsten Smith (Zoltan Padar) of Calgary, AB , paternal grandmother Bernadine Blasetti, paternal grandfather Skip Smith, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Karl was pre-deceased by maternal grandmother Marie Kerl, maternal grandfather Bud Kerl, and Aunt Louanne Pratch. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bold Center at 8702 91 Avenue in Lac La Biche on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The service will commence at 12:00 p.m. followed by a catered meal and memory sharing. 

Pallbearers: Geoffrey Pratch, Brendan Kerl, Faith Ginn, Philip Marasco, Adam Scullion, and Kolton Bobocel.

Honorary Pallbearers:  All his family, friends and colleagues. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service) in Karl’s name, or to a charity of your choice.
