Russell Langston Obituary

Respectfully submitted by the Langston family

Russell was born June 26 th, 1946, in Nipawin Saskatchewan to Violet and Francis ‘Tobe’ Langston. He
grew up with a passion for tractors and motorbikes working alongside his dad on tractors and a love of
motorcycles from his cousin Billy Mappin.

Russell joined the RCMP on March 9 th, 1966. His career extended 31 years to April 30 th, 1997, when he retired in Lac La Biche Alberta, with his wife Liz Ross. He had a very accomplished career with the RCMP starting out in Ottawa. He was a part of the RCMP musical ride from 1969-1972, he was on the back of the old fifty-dollar bill picturing musical ride members, he was in a movie starring Donald Sutherland and chief Dan George where he played an RCMP member (Alien Thunder later called Dan Candy’s Law.), he rode alongside Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau in the Calgary stampede, and his last posting was Staff Sergeant in the Lac La Biche, Alberta detachment. He married his wife Elizabeth Ross in 1972 and were together until her passing in 2019. They loved seeing new places, horses, and had a mutual love for their acreage in Lac La Biche.

As Russell retired, he decided to get into the oil and gas industry to keep himself busy and got involved
with tractor pulls. He bought himself a Harley Davidson around 5 years ago and collected numerous
antique tractors and restored many over the years. His biggest accomplishment restoring tractors was
being able to fully restore his grandma Julia’s Mappin’s Farmall A and his dad’s Cockshutt 80.
Russell enjoyed life, loved to visit his family and friends, talk about Harleys and tractors, have an iced
cold Miller, and have a good meal on holidays with his Uncle Lorne and later at his cousin Pats house.
Raspberry cheesecake and Saskatoon Rhubarb pie, a must.

Russell was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, his parents Tobe and Violet (Mappin), His grandparents
William and Julia Mappin, Alfred and Florence Langston, as well as many other aunts and uncles. He is
survived by his brother-in-law Jim Ross (Denise), nieces Kalie Blom & Megan Ross, cousins, Pat (Russ) Hodgson, Aleia (Lorne) Ross, Peyton Ross, Blaine (Juli) Mappin, God son Nick Mappin, Gail Langston Page, Greg Langston, Audrey Mason Sawatske, Kathy Mason Pickett, Lee Mason, Garth Dymond, Norman Dymond, Wayne Langston, Beverly Langston Bedard, Valerie Langston Jones, Blair Langston, and Craig Langston.
