Thomas Holden Obituary

With hearts full of love, the family of Thomas Holden grieve over the passing of their father, grandfather and great grandfather on Thursday February 12, 2026, at 76 years of age. Thomas was born in Melita, Manitoba, on January 16, 1950. He had been under the care of the amazing staff at the Grey Nuns Palliative Care Unit in Edmonton, Alberta, for seven days prior to his passing.

Our father lived well, laughed often and loved much. He had the respect of his peers and the love of his children and his family. He left the world better than he found it and never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it. He looked for the best in others and gave the best he had. We honour him this day and everyday by moving forward with remembrance and appreciation for his life, his accomplishments and the memories we made. He wore many hats in his lifetime, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. He was very proud of his service in the Navy. He ran his own company, “Shortys Express”. He worked oilfield, put himself through night school to get his OH&S degree. Started another company with that, “Christy Creek Enterprise”. Thomas was a proud member of many communities and a Deacon for the Church, and a proud member of the Legion, last serving as Seargent at Arms, and CCCF.

He loved sports, played and coached baseball, hockey, curling, and loved NCIS. He was a favorite uncle to many and loved to tease and had a great sense of humor right to then end. We love you Dad, and know you loved us. Your legacy will live on.

He will be missed dearly by his three children: Elan Holden, Edward Holden, Timothy (Vanessa) Holden; grandchildren: Austin Lavallee, Taylor Holden, Dylan Tkachuk, Avery Holden, Andie Holden, Alexis Holden; great grandchildren: Ashton, Charlotte, Tayte; siblings: Jack (Mary) Holden, Pat Holden, Bill (Marilyn) Holden, Lori Holden; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents: James Holden & Wilhelmina Holden of Napinka, Manitoba; brothers: Timothy, Howard, Edward, Robert.

A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday March 22, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the Hylo Venice Rec & AG Society, 901 8 Ave Hylo, Alberta.

He will be laid to rest beside his brothers, mother and father in Napinka, Manitoba at a later date.

We would like to thank the Doctors and nurses at the Grey Nuns Hospital, in Edmonton, Alberta, for allowing him to pass on with dignity and comfort and for the support from many family members and friends by his side and on his phone. He had peace in his heart.
